We Be Grubbin

Around The Way Restaurant Review

I was building with my peoples recently to get my mind off of other things when the conversation turned to food. And not just any old entree either. We're talking that good ish. It's no secret that I come from a family that can throw down; in the kitchen and at the table. But it is also no secret that I spent most of my time at the table. Hence, the husky jeans of my childhood. Plus, the crew that I hung with in college became notorious for getting our grub on and showing up to potlucks with a "dish." So, let's get 2008 popping off right with a quick field trip to the local spots that you probably won't catch in Boston magazine and might be hard-pressed to catch the Phantom Gourmet lurking in the shadows. Let's start with a simple of my favorite cuisines and maybe get to some more detail a little later.

Nice list, I hope your recommendation for Ashleys is worth it. :)

I don't think these places would end up on Boston magazie because they don't want to fight for parking space with the police and service isn't all that great. I'm a big critic on service. But its usually a trade off between service and food and if you want both your going to PAY.

Flames - I'm sorry but it went downhill. I had the worst stew beef known to man, how many fatty pieces of meat did they put in there. And the beef patties, if they happen to have any in stock.
So I refuse to go there anymore and waste my money.

I don't think Tapeos on Newbury counts as being in the 'hood', but none the less they do have some great sangria and tapas dishes. And yes great service!

Time to be positive and add to the list:

American:
Dogwood Cafe, Jamaica Plain
Firefly's, Qunicy

And I'm not a big Indian food fan, but if I had to eat it, Bukara in JP works.

Are there any Italian places around? Or any healthy options?
One can't live on fried chicken and mac and cheese alone
And when in doubt, my kitchen

nice. i hadn't anticipated any feedback or additions. let's see...the same that can be said for most of these places also holds true for any sub/pizza shop as well. most of them are convenient food as opposed to fast food like Wendy's and its ilk. And you should have known better at Flames because you see the food before you order it. That's on you for not pointing out the right meat! And Tapeos is included (as well as some others) because I didn't limit it to paces in the hood; just places where I go. And I know more than just the hood. ahem. Indian cuisine is in the next rollout, but Bukara is good. Healthy and/or Italian? I got you. Dem soon come.
